I earned a music degree with this horn and am an active professional musician. I disagree, that may be the case for the last years, however mine was purchased in and is a professional grade instrument. I sold it to him for I think it was a fair price. I ended up selling it locally on craigslist, to someone who wanted a nicer sax for his son who had been playing for about a year. Wow, I started this thread like two years ago!ĭidn't think anyone would still be commenting on it. Unfortunately for those wishing to sell, those driving the market value are the pros and hard core collectors, neither which seem overly enamored with the Omega as a top tier horn. Additionally, although one sees a small cadre of amateur enthusiasts sing some praise for these good, but not superlative, model saxophones, you would be hard pressed read not going to happen to see them used by the professional level players. Current market rates for these horns do not support that monetary assessment. Many people sing their praises some don't. Do you have any idea what I should ask for it? Selmer USA horns unlike Selmer Paris saxophones, which are always strictly professional grade models are all of the student to intermediate variety. Mine looks exactly like your pictures except that the engraving does not extend to the back of the bell, and mine is in mint condition with no scratches or dings.

I can't find any information on this serial number anywhere and also have no idea what it is worth. Signet Specials started production in or The early Signet Specials has the insignia on the barrel as well as on the other pieces.Serial numberalso bought in the 80's. I would guess this is from the Barbier or the other factory.

Keep in mind that Selmer Paris had their own Selmer Paris factory in addition to 2 other factories such as Barbier. Plastic Bundys started production in But some of the first Bundy wood clarinets were apparently Selmer Paris factory owned instruments in disguise. These have almost always been inferior to the Selmer-Paris models, but during WWII, Paris clarinets were, for obvious reasons, not available here. The pre WWII Signet was quite interesting as it had several pro features swoopy keywork which allows ease of adjustment. Selmer USA has manufactured various clarinets under the Signet brand since about and going back to the early s. Later Barbier production was moved to Elkhart, and resembled the earliest Signets. Later on it was noted that Barbier instruments may have been SML stencils identified by the metal lower joint socket when they were stamped Sponsored by Selmer and made in Paris. Florentin Barbier factory was sold to Selmer paris at one time.
